Growing Up Online

After watching the documentary:

"Growing Up Online",

I learned many facts that i didn't even know of five minutes before watching it. I knew that many kids around the world have a computer that takes up a lot of their time, whether it's talking to friends on facebook, or just playing online games. Yet what I didn't know was how immensely addicted kids are to this fairly new technology. For example, Greg said the "If [he] were to disconnect, [he] would be at a loss", this shows how valuable computers and cell phones have become over the years.

I am also surprised at how teenagers are comfortable with letting out all that information about themselves online where anyone is capable of reading it. Unsurprisingly, I am not alone on that one, a woman featured on the video said "They don't realize that when they're sharing on that keyboard, it's like let 'em on in baby".

In my opinion, kids should be more informed about the consequences of sharing too much information on the internet such as cyber bullying, online predators... teenagers these days rely so much on the internet that they can't do many things without it. Like Greg said, "[he] can't remember the last [he] read a book", because sparknotes is now the shortcut to getting an A on a reading assignment.

Ultimately, chaos would overcome the human race if computers, cell phones, video games, or even just one of the many new technologies that currently dominate over traditional ways of spending our day were to vanish from the face of the Earth. The only way to control computer and video game addiction is by getting kids to go outside and appreciate the miracles of nature from an early age.
