PARENTAL RULES

Now that you have started to reflect on your own media usage, please discuss media use and rules in your home.
Do your parents have rules? If so, what are they?
What kind of media behaviors occur in your home?
Do you break the rules? Why?
Please check grammar and spelling before posting.

In my house the rules are to have your homework finished and to not spend ALL week inside. I never break the rules as I do my homework and never feel like staying inside. My little brother mostly plays videogames while I do that along with Facebook and Youtube. Both my parents watch T.V.

In my house my parents haves some rules about my media use. My parents sometimes limit the amount of time I play xbox cause I could end up playing it for a while and they want to watch TV. I usually don't break the rules but it happens sometimes.

The rules in my house are mainly unspoken. I can usually use what ever media I want to when I want to but there are some things I can't do such as ordering a film from Netflix with out my parents knowing . My parents are often watching television but usually only use the Internet when they need to. I don't break the rules because the rules don't interfere with what I want to do with my media usage.

My parents don't really have rules when it comes to my media usage, that is because the only media usage I really use is my computer, but sometimes after I've spent too much time on it, or I stay up too late on the internet, my parents would definitly get angry with me. Really the only kind of media behavior that occurs in my home is the use of the internet and computer, on average, my brother and I might spend 4 hours a day on it. But my brother and I very often break the rules, by break the rules, I mean not follow my parents orders to shut off the computer when we've been on too long late at night, maybe that is because when you're already on it and doing something your enjoying, you cant just shut it off and go to bed that easily.

Yes my parents do have rules against media use sometimes. One and only rule that they have against me is using my phone and ipod when i go to bed because I need to get my sleep a lot because sometimes I am tired in school. The media use that occurs in my home are a lot of calling and going on the computer because my family likes to keep in touch with other friends in their life so do I. Sometimes I do attend to sneak my ipod and cellphone into the room because I love listening to music and texting but then sometimes the next morning I don't feel exausted.

My parents have pretty simple rules. Do your homework first, and don't spend hours and hours on the computer. Sometimes I take a brake from my work and go on the internet for a few minuets, I guess that is braking the rules, but I only do it once or twice and not for very long. I don't think I would get in too much trouble because I'm only taking a five minuet (or less) brake. My parents watch tv, but I really don't know how much, they are still watching when I go to bed usually. My mom spends a lot of time on the internet, I really don't know what she does. My dad has an iPad, so he plays lots of games.

My parents are pretty chill with rules. There are some shows that me and my mom watch together like Glee or Kendra. Every other day i play xBox 360 or Wii , since i think its fun. My dad usually falls asleep on the couch either watching the Food Network or some type of sports channel. I have a lot of shows I like to watch weekly. On Demand is helpful to, if you didn't get to see or record a show. I have DVR on my living room and bedroom TV, which helps me out a lot, if I have play rehearsal or something I have to do. I can watch any time and how ever many times I want, its really nice. So there's really no rules in my house.

My parents have rules, but since my father is an programing engineer, they would know if we'd broken them. They're simple, really: Don't give your personal information to anyone, Don't go on the computer (or otherwise) until all necessary academic activities are complete, Don't go on any suspicious sights, Just avoid anything inappropriate, And remember we can check your history. Rose and I are mostly on the computer, though I periodically watch movies (Rose likes to declare that she hates movies. Well, most of them). We'll watch TV shows sometimes (like Sherlock a few weeks ago) but not regularly. Our parents watch more television then we do, but they do it after we go to bed, and the electronic clocking our bedroom is drastically off, so I can't tell how long they watch it. We don't own a gaming system, but we can either go upstairs, or got to our friend's house to play. Either way, we don't play for too long because we either give ourselves headaches, or have to go back down stairs. I can't say I've ever really broken the rules, because I feel like it's a good system (and I don't go randomly browsing the internet anyway, so it's easy to avoid most of the disturbing stuff). Also, I'm generally very uptight about that sort of thing, you can ask most people who know me.

Yes, my parents do have some rules in the house. My parents never watch T.V. late at nights. My parents have some rules: they don't watch T.V. more than 3 hours, they don't use computer at nighttime, and they don't even listen to music at nighttime. My parents are the ones who made the rules and they never break their own rules. But my parents watch T.V. very limited because they mostly only watch the news. They watch news from 8 to 10 every night. If they see that the Celtics' game is on they watch with passion. Yes, I break the rules sometimes when there are Basketball or Football games on T.V. I always watch them till midnight sometimes, and I listen to my ipod everyday at night. I break them because I like listening to music and I'm pretty addicted to it but I still don't break all the rules though.

I don't have any rules at my house. Usually I can use media as long as I want because my parents are a work sometimes. But even they are home they let me do what I want. They don't tell me not to use any media, but recommend to focus on my studies.

There are not too many parental rules that have been set in my house but some of them are that all my homework must be done before I can use media. This rule does have several exemptions like on Fridays and weekends I can do whatever i want to do. I do not break this rule often but if my parents are not home I will once in a while play video-games before doing my homework. My parents use quite a bit of media as they watch lots of tv and are constantly on the computer or on the phone.

In my house there are barely any rule on using media except to turn everything off when I'm doing homework I always break this rule because I never get distracted whenever the TV is on when I'm doing homework. My parents barely use any media in the house except for watching TV and sometimes going on the computer to check international news from asia.

My parents don't have any specific rules when it comes to technology and media, although they have in the past. At one point they even tried to block Facebook from our computers. At home, everyone has a cell phone with a full keyboard for texting, and we are constantly using them. My mom, my brother and I all have Facbooks, although i spend the most time using the site out of all of us. Another huge media presence in my house is video games. I myself don't play them, but my brother plays as much as he possibly can, sometimes even putting off homework and other important things.

In my house there aren't many rules controlling media. My parents use media as much or more than i do. Both of my parents jobs make them be on the computer for most of the day. Also we have an x box. a wii and a play station, they both believe that media is good for us to get to used to and become familiar with technology.

At home my father spends most of his free time watching the news. Mostly because he loves learning and hearing about what else is going on with the world, because believe or not there is a whole world out there. My mother on the other hand, tires to limit the amount we spend on our media usage but it never tends to work. Not that my father and I have a problem with excess media usage, but we just like to be up to date on our news.

my house does not generally have specific rules. My parents generally do not watch too much TV or go on the computer too much, with the exception of my mom, who goes on the computer a lot. we don't have cable, but our computers are generally nice and, as a result, i end up procrastinating on the computer a lot. My parents try to place general rules, such as limits on how late i can stay up, but these rules are often broken. All too often, however, we bend the rules. I guess my parents are trying to place more of the responsibility of doing my work in my hands. These rules are broken due to my own procrastination.
