I think mass communications is about how the world now a day communicates with each other. In 2009 we have a lot of ways to communicate. For example texting, AIM, email, cell phones etc, and mass communications is the way it is viewed.
Mass communications is the work that goes on in the studio, for instance producing a TV show or in are case (YouTube show). It is dealing with cameras lighting sets all wrapped into going into this show.
Mass Communication is getting a message across to a large population and putting out information that will reach a lot of people. The whole point is to reach out to as many people as possible to spread and effectively convey the message or point that you are sending out.
