With the decline of newspapers, a large amount of people have been laid off from there newspaper related jobs, and a rising in the online newspaper industry has taken place. This has left many people asking the question, where the future of older media is headed in regard to the newer forms? The article addresses these issues. In my opinion, it makes more sense to use computers for news and music. I very rarely listen to the radio, because no music I enjoy is ever played on the radio. And I never read the paper, because everything I can find in the newspaper, I can find on the internet. If I can find all of the old media sources in one convenient spot, i.e. the computer, than why bother searching and paying extra for certain things that are much less convenient.

détente: The easing of hostility or strained relations.

As newspapers decline, many job cuts are being made to save money. Now, more people are looking to the internet than the newspapers and they are losing revenue due to that. Most news is found on the internet, in one place, and for no cost. More people are looking to the internet to advertise than the newspapers because more people access the website than the print, therefore more will see their advertisements.

détente: a relaxing of tension

More and more people are looking to internet newspapers for the latest information than actual printed newspapers. Many are losing their jobs because of this turnout. With less people buying newspapers, less money is made. The future of printed media is being questioned.

détente: the easing of tensions or strained relations

The decline of newspapers - a lot of newspapers that have been around for such a long time, have to cease production. people loose their jobs due to ceasing productions. Many large and long-lasting newspapers have all been loosing readers and have had to cut circulation. People who read newspapers are the minority. Money is an important factor as well. The use of some media are decreasing slowly and slowly, but some are still able to make it.

detente: a relaxing of tension, esp. between nations, as by negotiations or agreements. (dictionary.com)

Detente is the easing of tensions, usually between nations. Due to the decline in newspaper popularity, newspapers are losing money because ads on the internet don't pay as much as the ones in the paper. As a result, companies are laying off huge amounts of their workers. This could lead to less reliable reporting.

détente - relaxing of tension. (as everyone has already mentioned)

This was kind of interesting artical, as it states the down-fall of newspaper itself. It shows how the modern things takes over old-age things. Like guns took over pikes and spears, cars took over horses and bulls. This is how the world runs. I personally think that soon it is going to be a time when these, news-papers will completely stop its circulation around the world. But a newer technology takes hold of its place. It could be Internet, or could be some other new invention of mass communication.

"And Gannett, the largest newspaper publisher in the country, compounded the grimness by announcing it was laying off 10 percent of its work force — up to 3,000 people." This is a serious event. This shows that the new medium of mass communication is gripping costumers attention. It could be serious threat to newspaper companies, but they could still use the internet as their new medium for communication instead of real paper (which many has already started doing).
As PJ said, , another repercussion for the decline of newspaper is that it is extra waste of money to the customers. Why would someone, waste his money for no reason when he can get the same information just from a different medium, which is more easier to view (videos and audios) and is more cheaper? And beside people would prefer videos rather than reading, wouldn't they?
